Allcargo Terminals that operates Container Freight Station and Inland Container Depots, said on Monday that it has expanded the capacity of its Kolkata freight station.

According to an official statement, the freight station can process more than 1,200 TEUs of rice per month and it hopes to increase its production capacity by more than 25%.

It is one of six Allcargo Terminals’ strategically placed stations and is close to the Kolkata port. It is built to match demand for production and consumption in order to minimize logistical expenses.

“We are witnessing a surge in rice exports following the recent lifting of the government’s ban, and we are fully prepared to meet the growing demand. Between October and November, we observed a significant growth of over 60% in TEU volumes, reflecting the increasing momentum in exports,” said Nitin Behl, Regional Head- East & North India Allcargo Terminals Limited. “We have ample capacity in terms of space, skilled workforce, advanced cargo-handling equipment, technology and infrastructure, as well as the availability of empty containers, to customize and serve customers’ demand efficiently,” Behl added.
